You’ve Suspected Your Traffic Isn’t All Human. Here’s How to Actually See It.

Cloudflare sits between the internet and your site and logs every single request before it reaches you. But its dashboard only shows you totals. This free guide connects Claude to that log and builds a visual breakdown: humans, bots, AI crawlers, what got blocked, and which AI assistants fetched your pages because someone asked them a question.

What's Inside

Your Traffic, Split Into 8 Groups

The report sorts every request Cloudflare logged into eight categories: likely humans, verified bots, likely bots, AI assistant fetches, AI crawlers, excessive-rate AI crawlers, automated tools, and blocked or refused traffic. You see which slice is working for you, which is working against you, and which is quietly reading your content.

One Prompt. One Visual Report.

Type your domain and Claude builds a single-page HTML report with a daily chart, top pages, user agents, and countries for each group, pulling up to 30 days of history. It opens in any browser, and you can send it to a client as is.

Safe, Simple, Done Once in 15 Minutes

The setup is read-only. Claude can look at your Cloudflare data. It cannot change anything. No API keys to copy, no paid Cloudflare plan required. You sign in with Cloudflare once, and every report after that is one prompt.

This guide is written for digital marketers, analysts, and small-agency owners who run GA4 or GTM and whose site, or at least one client’s site, sits on Cloudflare.

Your analytics tool counts sessions. Cloudflare counts requests. Those are not the same thing, and the difference between them is where most of the confusion lives. One week on measureu.com, 572,505 requests hit Cloudflare. Only about 20% came from likely humans. The rest was a mix of verified bots, likely bots, automated tools, AI crawlers, and traffic Cloudflare blocked or the site refused outright. GA4 did not show that breakdown. It showed sessions.

This guide walks you through connecting Claude to Cloudflare’s official connector in about 15 minutes. After that, one prompt builds a visual breakdown of everything Cloudflare saw. You find out roughly how much of your traffic behaves like a human, what got blocked or refused, which AI assistants fetched your pages because a real person asked them a question, and which crawlers are reading your content to train a model. That context changes how you read your numbers, and it changes how you explain those numbers to a client.

  • ✓ Do I need a paid Cloudflare plan? No. The connector works on Cloudflare’s free plan. You do not need to upgrade anything.
  • ✓ Is this safe to set up on a client’s site? Yes. The access is read-only, which means Claude can pull data but cannot touch any settings. You can revoke it any time.
  • ✓ What if I already use Google Analytics? GA4 shows you sessions after your tracking code fires. Cloudflare logs every request before it ever reaches your page, including traffic that never triggers GA4 at all. The two tools are looking at different things.
  • ✓ How current is the data? The report covers up to 30 days of Cloudflare history. Each time you run the prompt you get a fresh report from whatever is in that window.
  • ✓ What does “likely humans” actually mean? These are estimates based on what Cloudflare can observe, not a guaranteed count. An AI agent that drives a real browser, for example, still looks like a human request at this layer. The report shows you the shape of your traffic, not a perfect census of it.

Built by Someone Who Needed It First

Jeff Sauer ran a digital marketing agency before founding MeasureU, where he’s trained more than 50,000 marketers in analytics and measurement. The report was run on measureu.com’s own Cloudflare data, which is where the 20% human figure came from. The skill uses Cloudflare’s official connector, so there’s no workaround or gray-area integration involved.

Ready to Do Something With What You Find?

Seeing your traffic broken out by type is the first step. The next one is deciding what to do about it. AI Traffic Control is a MeasureU workshop where Jeff walks you through what the different traffic categories mean for your site, how to think about them strategically, and how to get bot and AI traffic labeled inside GA4 using a ready-made GTM container, so you can filter or segment it in your reporting.
